In 2005, Jambo started its "Coins for Change" project, inviting participants to collect pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters to have desks built for kindergarten children at Iltilal Primary School located in the Chuyulu Hills in Kenya and Iviani Primary in Tsavo.

"Coins for Change" was a huge success (see photos below of students at their new desks, built with funds collected by Jambo kids in 2005-06). Jambo invites you to join this worthy project. How much is a penny, a nickel or a dime worth? It won’t buy an ice cream, a soda or toy. But when you put them all together, their value adds up and amazing things can be done. It costs only $12 - $15 to build a 3-child desk in Kenya. We hope that you will be a part of "Coins for Change". Every child and every cent can make a difference!

Previously, the 70 students at Iltilal had class outdoors under a tree, rain or shine. There were no desks or chairs and only rocks and dirt to sit on. The blackboard in the photo above was carved out of the tree, plastered and then spray painted black. With funds collected during Jambo's 2005 "Coins for Change" fundraising drive, new desks were built and delivered to the students of Iltilal.
