"I think it's important to participate in this program so these children see that they have so much in common... they get to make the connection that kids are kids no matter where they are."
Judy Hession, Principal, Joaquin Miller Elementary.
4th Grade teacher travels to Kenya with Jambo:

Jennifer, a 4th grade teacher, traveled to Kenya with Jambo in February.
Classroom Projects demonstrate enthusiasm and creativity:
The enthusiasm and creativity of teachers participating in Jambo is evident in their wonderful projects. In addition to letter writing and drawings, classroom projects have included making banners; "Hello" books; American Holiday, Volcanoes of the World, and The 50 USA States books; handcrafted masks; bracelets and necklaces; quilts; and T-shirts.

Teachers from George Washington ES and their students created a series of animal reports. Sharing reports on animals such as moose and bears were enjoyed by all, after watching a Jambo-produced movie about Alaska.

Quilts are colorful and inspired:

Another mentionable project was the ambitious program in which a teacher asked her students to create 4-panel art pieces in which each child illustrated a self-portrait, something they enjoy (such as a pet), a description of their goals, and what they want to be when they grow up.
A sampling of other great projects can be seen on the "Jambo Kids USA" page.
Materials created by participating schools will be shipped to Africa once a year. Contact us for the latest schedule.
