"I think it's important to participate in this program so these children see that they have so much in common... they get to make the connection that kids are kids no matter where they are."
Judy Hession, Principal, Joaquin Miller Elementary.

The enthusiasm and creativity of teachers participating in Jambo is evident in their wonderful projects. In addition to letter writing and drawings, classroom projects have included making banners, "Hello" books, handcrafted masks, bracelets and necklaces, bookmarks and T-shirts.

Teachers have arranged some classes to record audio tapes of nursery rhymes, and others have made videos. Currently, one teacher had her class make squares for a quilt that is now being pieced together. Another teacher asked her student's to create 4-panel art pieces in which each child illustrated a self-portrait, something they enjoy (such as a pet), a description of their goals, and what they want to be when they grow up. A sampling of these great projects can be seen on the "Jambo Kids USA" page.

FREE Resource Kits for ALL participating schools and clubs:

In order to help you jumpstart Project Jambo, we’ll be providing Resource Kits on CD for all participating groups. Some things that may be included: background on Kenya, maps, photos taken at the schools, Swahili word lists, drawings, information on native wildlife, arts and crafts suggestions, etc. These kits will be continually evolving with the input from our current participants.

We will ship, or deliver in person, materials to Africa 1 - 2 times a year. Contact us for the latest schedule.

For more information about how your school or club can participate, contact Sue Gilbert at: sue@projectjambo.org
